Pora Lee is a South Korean illustrator and painter based in Oakville, Ontario. Through her personal experiences of constant illness and two marriages, both following in divorce, she has been motivated to find inner peace through art making and sharing aspects of her journey by applying religious aspects of Catholicism, such as hermitage. Currently in her late sixties and retired, Pora is now enjoying the freedom of working in the studio full-time and going to Mass daily is her constant companion next to enjoying her three children and five grandchildren This collection of experimental paintings were created on forgotten and discarded materials, such as painted canvases, used wood blocks, miscut acrylic sheets, styrofoam, etc., from previously failed projects from other artists. The use of acrylic paint with various brushes, rags, and water acts as an enforcer to make quick decisions to add or remove layers of paint before it dries. At times, the progression of these paintings may be an unfathomable love to the point of completion or may result in an unbearable halt of confusion. In lieu of these contrasting feelings, continually painting on various materials has pushed the collection to be constantly moving in the artist’s studio.
