BiographyMy name is Sal Cosenza, and telling stories is my passion. After the tragedy of 9.11, I became obsessed with the iconography of Manhattan, and its buildings have been dominant in my work ever since. Many of my paintings seek to extract anthropomorphic characteristics from iconic New York landmarks, by applying human attributes to seemingly inert architectural objects. Using buildings or other objects as a lens for the human experience, my work responds to social, cultural, and psychological constructs that shape our everyday world. Both the Domestic New York and Manhattan series make ample use of this concept, while the Resilient Love and Stranger series exhibit numerous anthropomorphic tendencies as well. I have painted professionally since 2002, and my work has been carried by Scottsdale’s Art One Gallery since 2005. My paintings have also been showcased at West Valley Art Museum (AZ), Teatro LATEA (NYC), Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, and LaGuardia Community College (NYC), as well as various fine arts boutiques, furniture stores, restaurants, coffee shops, libraries, and college campuses throughout Arizona and New York. Prolific and unfulfilled in my desire to tell stories through a variety of media, I liken the production of a painting, for instance, to a director making a film or a singer crafting a new album. Concept drives everything in my creative arsenal, and I have generated innumerable concepts in a variety of formats over the years. But this, as they say, is only the beginning…
