Born in Kalamazoo, MI, in 1972, Amy Hutcheson has established herself prominently in the art community. Her work has been showcased across the US in esteemed venues such as LRoss Gallery; Globe Fine Art in Santa Fe, NM; Mongerson Gallery in Chicago, IL; The Ground Floor Gallery in Nashville, TN; and Jack Robinson Gallery in Memphis, TN. Numerous private and corporate collections feature her creations, including Sedgwick and Horne, LLC in Memphis, TN; Credit One Building in Chicago, IL; Askew, Nixon, and Ferguson Architect Firm in Memphis, and Theo’s Bistro in Memphis, TN. Amy has been recognized for her remarkable talent, receiving the People’s Choice award at The Brush Off international juried show in 2020. In 2012, she was honored with the Best in Show title at the From The Ground Up exhibit in Nashville and was a nominee for the Emmett O'Ryan Award for Artistic Inspiration, presented by The Brooks Museum in Memphis. Her work has graced numerous juried exhibitions throughout the nation. A graduate of Memphis College of Art with a BFA, Amy continues to live and work in Memphis. Artist StatementAmerican Artist Amy Hutcheson’s works are a response todaily life. Each composition explores relationships betweenspace, line, color and form. Exploring the world and thenature of visual representation she exams and reducesessential elements to their most basic forms. Not to simplifythe form, light, line and color but rather to give the viewerthe opportunity to have their own experience with eachpiece. Imagination has no boundaries except the ones weplace on ourself. Our physical world limits us daily. Herwork invites you to allow imagination and the physical worldto exist and become limitless together.Many of her pieces reveal pencil marks to show the artistshand, inviting the viewer to extend their gaze along thepicture plane. “My works are fueled by joy, music, physicalmovement and synesthesia. The marks that lay just under thesurface reveal the most intimate aspects of the “self.” Eachtitle of work further unveil hints and give pause to the viewerand invites them to forget their troubles to get lost in a joyfulworld of color, humor and mark making.
