James Adebayo is a Nigerian visual artist whose work delves into themes of transformation, cultural memory, and the complexities of human perception. Drawing from Yoruba history, personal experiences, and Nigerian life, his abstract figurative paintings blend nostalgia and introspection. Adebayo's unique perspective is shaped by his experience with binocular diplopia, a condition that causes him to see one object as two. Embracing this as a creative tool, he uses distortion and dual imagery to reflect the layered realities of human perception.Through vibrant colors and dreamlike quality, Adebayo's work evokes feelings of nostalgia while challenging viewers to confront ideas of identity, culture, and personal transformation. His artistic process is a conversation between the past and present, truth and perception, clarity and distortion. Adebayo has had numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally, including the Harlem Art Fair in New York. Notably, he collaborated with Spotify Africa on the "Music Meets Art" project, showcasing his unique artistic vision to a global audience.Residency:- Rele Young Contemporaries, Ekiti, Nigeria (2021)
