German American artist Ali Eckert grew up within two cultures and has been strongly influenced by American imagery and pop cultural elements. His art explores various iconography to reflect its ongoing cultural transition.Eckert’s unique analog process marries photography with painting. With his background as a photographer, Eckert experimented for two years discovering how to transfer printed pigments, through a manual process, to achieve a handmade painting. While adding acrylic paint, he skins the pigmented layer off and on to his canvas, aluminum or wood.Whether a crushed Brillo box, a worn-out gas pump or a broken neon sign, they all struggle to hang on while simultaneously starting to fade into oblivion. Eckert embraces American culture and preserves bits and pieces from vanishing.The created piece is always an original work. Eckert has received several international awards and is internationally collected (Sander Collection/Basel, Zagoras Collection/Athens and the Neumann-Hug Collection/St.Urban, German Art Fund Hungary, among others).Eckert works with mixed media, film and photography in his studios in Berlin and Wisconsin.
