Andreas Somogyi's passion for cars began at a very young age. His very first sketch was the simple outline of a car, and so began a lifetime of love and admiration for a car's bold and sleek design, curvaceous lines, and streamlined look. He studied fine art at Centennial Academy in Montreal. It was here he discovered his natural talent and creativity for drawing cars. Surprisingly, Andreas put his art on hold for many years and it was only later-on in life where his passion and appreciation for cars can be truly seen in every one of his paintings to this day. Somogyi’s dedication to the automotive industry was evident from the age of 16 working in a variety of car shops. Here he developed hands-on experience and understanding of the automotive industry and became a certified welder. To follow his dreams, he left his Canadian roots and ventured to Southern California, the mecca of the automotive world. While in Orange County California, Andreas began a television career with automotive related television shows, before taking part for over a decade in the well-known hit television series “Overhaulin’" on The Discovery Channel. It is in conjunction with top fabricators in the automotive industry including Chip Foose working side by side with him and the A-Team where Andreas eventually became Lead Fabricator on the show. While exposed to the creativity on the show, along with time spent drawing and painting with his daughter KiKi, ignited the artistic talent that laid dormant for so long. As Andreas rediscovered his creative expression by translating velocity and speed on canvas. Andreas creates both small and large scale paintings using his unique expressionist style. This style combines his passion for cars and his artistic talent painting images of a car in motion, capturing the essence of speed. “As it is meant to be”. His paintings portray the raw emotion and movement of vehicles as he sees them, with an element of energy and erratic lines, combining bright colors so the viewer feels like they are in the driver’s seat.
