While historically based, Thomas Shepherd enjoys placing his figures into unique contemporary roles. The goal is to use Art’s inherent ability to spark conversation, and to challenge pre-conceived narratives while demonstrating how those narratives change over time. Employing methods from the 1500s, he builds his distinctive characters with white and black to create value. He then infuses traditional style with contemporary color palettes, building a bridge from the Renaissance to the modern age. His love of philosophy, literature, mythology, film and history is evident in each fresh piece.
