As a child, Al Glann longed for his own horse to have on the family farm in Toledo, Ohio. When that didn’t come to fruition he decided on the next best thing—creating his own sculptural horses. This artistic bent led to Glann’s formal training, receiving a BFA from the Columbus College of Art & Design, and after re-locating to Arizona, a Masters of Education at Northern Arizona University. For many years he taught 3-D design and illustration, and graphic design. He was named ‘Instructor of the Year’ in 2009 and decided it was time to devote himself full-time to art. He considers his sculpture a ‘3-D drawing with metal’ and exaggerates line, weight and movement, using negative space to define form and personality.
