Artist StatementAs an artist, my work is a vibrant exploration of color and texture, presenting a captivating world of organic shapes and dynamic texture compositions. Each piece I create is imbued with a thematic thread that celebrates color, movement, and the sensory allure of abstract forms. By weaving together elements from nature, underwater landscapes, and dreamlike environments, I aim to offer viewers a lively and engaging experience.My artistic style is characterized by a sense of movement and fluidity, with compositions that suggest thematic continuity and offer a refreshing, energizing appeal. Circular patterns and the interplay of color and form harmoniously unite the series, breathing life into my art and ensuring that each piece maintains a cohesive atmosphere. These cascading structures—reminiscent of natural motifs such as waves, petals, or floral elements—reinforce the connection between individual works. I am drawn to imaginary and whimsical subject matter, often inspired by my life near the ocean. This environment fuels my passion and imagination, guiding my art toward capturing the essence of happiness, color, and fun.The uniqueness of my artwork stems from the heavy use of texture—applied both randomly and deliberately. By incorporating texture paste, acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, and graphite, I achieve rich, layered surfaces that lend depth and dimensionality to each creation. The color palette I favor features blues and greens, accented by vibrant reds, pinks, and yellows, all of which enhance the dynamic energy that permeates my work.In every piece, I strive to offer an invitation to a world that celebrates the beauty and joy of abstract expression, inviting viewers to experience the interconnectedness of nature and imagination through the prism of color and texture. BIOGRAPHICALAward-Winning Artist and Eastern North Carolina native, Liz Morton studied art at Appalachian State University (Boone and NYC), Barton College (Double Major: Printmaking & Illustration), The University of NC at Greensboro (MFA/Painting), and Ghost Ranch, NM (Intuitive Painting). Liz has experienced significant international travel exercising every opportunity to talk with other artists and visit the studios, museums, and galleries along the way. Active in the Metropolitan DC area art scene for twenty years, she is now home in her beloved coastal NC supporting her autistic great nephew and practicing her art.
