Desiree Red Elk, Cheyenne and Anglo, is a self-taught artist from a family of fine artists. She celebrates the importance of eagle feathers to native American culture “by painting paint chiefs and other old indigenous photographs on feathers. When I stare into my artwork it's like being in a dream; it takes me to some other place and time.” Painting on what’s known as legal eagle feathers, turkey feather painted to look like the feather of an eagle, she uses fine brushes tipped with acrylic, oils, water colors and indian inks.
