Santa Clara Pueblo’s Sharon Naranjo Garcia makes striking pottery in the Santa Clara style, as her family has been doing for centuries. She hails from “Khapo Owingeh, Santa Clara Pueblo, a Tewa speaking pueblo located in Northern New Mexico where the Singing Water meets the Rio Grande,” as she describes it, where the talent passed through the maternal lines of this distinguished family known for generations of potters. The artist has been an Indian Market exhibitor for three of the four decades she has been building pots. Naranjo’s “Lightening” is a bold statement in bowl form, its elegant black finish polished to near iridescence.
