Artist Statement Janet Jaworski – Oil My art is a collection of my surroundings. I work my oil in layers problem solving so that in the end I capture the essence of a time and place. A solitary childhood honed an eye for observations that flourished with mark making and paint. Art took detour with a career in graphic design. But then I began seriously studying art with various teachers and my passion for color and shapes within forms took hold. The resulting compositions redefines the subjects to show the viewer another perceptive. For the last decade my surroundings reflect the birth of the coastal landscape I call home. BIO Janet Jaworski was raised in New England and had a long career as a graphic designer with ad agencies and several industries. That and a family placed art on hold. As the children got older she started taking art classes and workshops. When 14 years ago her husband David relocated for work it was the opportunity to paint full time. Looking at her paintings you see an artistic style that uses color, composition, light, movement and the abstraction within shapes as inspiration. Working in her gallery studio in Morehead City, NC she has turned her focus to the natural beauty of Eastern North Carolina. Her paintings reflect the landscape and wildlife diversity of the area. Often husband David’s photos are used as painting references.She always knew she would be an artist as she said, “Our school was on an outing and I saw art students leaving classes with their portfolios. I wanted to be one of them. It has not been a linear journey but I never lost that desire.”Janet knows the need to give back to the community as the Past President of the Carteret Country Arts Council helping them revised by-laws, create a strategic plan, find a physical home and hire an ED. She has served on the gallery boards of Mattie King Gallery in Beaufort, and the Hospital Arts Committee. Prior to this she was on several boards at the Worcester Art Museum in MA.2021 Janet and her husband David opened Impressions Art Gallery in Morehead City with the mission to create more wall space for local artists, help emerging artist show their work and create a working studio.Influences include Kat O’Connor, whom she worked with in New England and in New Mexico, Trisha Adams, with several workshops including Italy, and Heather Sink of Beaufort.
