John Long was born in Brazil, grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, spent 20 of his best years in San Diego, and then moved to Asheville in 2023. He has been a borosilicate flame worker since 1997 and has 20 years (on and off) experience in the Hot Shop. During that 26 year period he has worked with and learned from countless amazingly talented artists. A self proclaimed student for life, John also really enjoys teaching glass art. “Introducing an individual to hot glass for the first time is a very special privilege.” As an artist John has always been obsessed with form and function when crafting his glass art. “I like to take a few colors that work well together OR contrast nicely and break down all the different ways the colors can be used, and then incorporate all of those techniques into one congruous piece of art.”
