Minnesota woodwork craftsman Peter Schulzetenberg has been honing his skills since he began his artistic journey in 1996. Peter was fortunate enough to grow up in a house full of art – paintings, ceramics, sculpture, glass and so on – all of which had a profound effect on the young man and refined his innate sense of design. His styles and techniques have since expanded to the present, remarkable, excellent, and unique expressions in wood. Peter’s pieces may be “simple” in their conception but are complex in execution so as to complement the natural beauty of the wood and not compete with it. I try to let the wood speak to me in order to best capture the beauty of each piece. Many times, I take some gorgeous, even exotic piece of wood or veneer and let the design evolve as I build it to showcase the intrinsic beauty of the wood. I enjoy exotic veneers from all corners of the world as well as solid wood, domestic and imported. Sometimes, I sketch spontaneous ideas on a handy napkin or envelope to capture the inspiration of the moment – and the resulting piece evolves into a truly lovely object. Most of all, I love it when my collectors see more in the work than even I do.
