Born in Colombia in 1984 and raised in Spain, Lucía Duque is a Spanish artist currently based in Clinton, Mississippi. Her work blends the vibrancy of Latin American art with European traditions, resulting in expressive, symbolic pieces full of color and emotion.Lucía studied mural painting at La Palma School of Art in Madrid and completed her training at the Sevilla School of Art. Over the years, she has developed a strong personal style, working primarily in acrylic and watercolor, and exploring themes such as migration, identity, and resilience. Her watercolor paintings reflect an intimate, poetic approach to storytelling, while her murals bring communities together through shared artistic experiences. Deeply committed to public and collaborative art, Lucía has led large-scale mural projects in both Spain and Mississippi and has taught painting in schools and community programs. Her work has been exhibited in both Europe and the United States, including solo exhibitions in Seville, Málaga, and Madrid, and group shows in California, Indianapolis, and Mississippi. Her piece Leap of Faith was featured in the 2021 Art Party at the Mississippi Museum of Art. In April 2025, she presented her most recent solo exhibition, The Nomad’s Journey, at the Arts Center of Mississippi in Jackson. This collection, made up of acrylic paintings, explored themes of migration and belonging. Her latest mural, a vibrant botanical piece, can be seen at 201 Clinton Boulevard in Clinton, MS, reflecting her dedication to community engagement through public art. Lucía continues to paint, teach, and collaborate on cultural initiatives that use art to bridge cultures, foster dialogue, and build meaningful community connections.
