Rob Watt works in hand embroidery using cotton DMC thread on Dupioni silk. After graduating from Colorado College in 1978 with a BA in Studio Art, Watt attended Colorado State University, where he received his B.F.A. in Graphic Design in 1981. It was at CSU that he stumbled into a fiber-work class taught by Tom Lundberg. Lundberg’s enthusiasm and skill as a teacher and artist brought Watt into the world of fiber arts, and after an additional workshop with Lundberg and artist Connie Lehman in 1986, Watt has been creating embroidery ever since. Watt says of his practice: “I used to draw and paint landscapes…Now, I think of my work as drawing and painting with thread.” For the past eleven years, Watt has been a member at SPARK Gallery in Denver and has shown his work in various galleries and art centers in Colorado. In addition, he was featured in the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, D.C. and the Cherry Creek Arts Festival in Denver.
