Beau Tsatoke is from the Oklahoma Kiowa Nation, immersed in the tribe’s ritual, spiritual and artful practices his whole life. The Kiowa are well known for breeding horses, in particular, "Appaloosas" trained for both their strength and endurance on the hunt. The name "Tsatoke” means “Searching for Horses". Using ledger art to depict battles, dances, and the complex iconography that tells the story, the artist uses brilliant colors. The direct descendant of Monroe Tsatoke, the noted Kiowa Five artist, Tsatoke is an active member of the Kiowa Gourd Clan and the O-Ho-Mah Lodge War Dance Society. His work is in the collections of Institute of American Indian Arts, the Southern Plains Indian Museum, and numerous private collections. He is a graduate of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
