Janine Riches has been painting for over 30 years using a variety of mediums and styles. Her work represents upbeat and heart-warming stories on love, family, culture and life in Australia. Her distinct style encourages the collector to find peace in their place. The paintings are full of a mixture of Australian themes with varied and inventive abstract patterns and shapes. The movement is mesmerising and the subject dances. Janine's palette ranges from her love of the classic black and white from the art deco era, to a soft mix of subtle colours. There is a multiplicity of images in the artwork and it will suit any home style whether modern or traditional. Janine references the Australian Landscape, childhood nostalgia and family history. She has lived in Darwin and many of her paintings reference the areas of Broome, Alice Springs, Palm Valley and Hermansberg. She believes we are all connected in some way and draws on inspiration from all cultures with the intent to bridge boundaries create reconciliation and unite us as people. Janine uses various mediums such as pastel, oils, acrylics, and collage. Her aim to evoke feelings of comfort and a place to find happiness and peace for the viewer. She is passionate about the human condition and paint simplistic figurative pieces where she explores the powerful communication of body language. Janine is predominantly a self-taught artist and in 2018 completed a Bachelor of fine Art at Curtin University, Western Australia. Janine’s work is in private collections both nationally and internationally, including America, Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Japan.
