Born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1953, Bob Stuth-Wade has lived in Texas most of his life. At 70 years of age, Stuth-Wade continues to paint luminous Texas landscapes every day, weather permitting, that convey his deep emotional connection to the land. He paints in plein air near his home in Dublin, Texas, or in favorite places like Big Bend National Park or the Colorado River area near San Saba. Smaller watercolors or oil paintings in the field can become studies for larger works in the studio. Stuth-Wade’s interest in art began at age 5 in Corpus Christi on the Texas coast. His art education has been self-directed and experimental since he was a student at Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas when he was mentored by Dallas artist Perry Nichols, mostly in the egg tempera medium. He has exhibited continuously since his first solo gallery exhibition at age 18. His 11th solo exhibition at Valley House Gallery, The Comfort of Trees, in 2022 was in response to Covid isolation.
