Kelila Zechowy is a painter whose work is an investigation into personal and societal evolution. Working primarily with large-scale acrylic on canvas, Kelila's distinctive style is characterized by a dynamic, gestural application of color and deeply layered, textured surfaces. Their practice seeks to challenge the viewer's perception of memory, drawing the audience into a dialogue that is both intimate and universally resonant. The genesis of Kelila's work often starts with delectable etymological rabbit holes. She explores themes of technological revolution, fractured identity, and the sublime in everyday life, using abstraction as a means to dissect and recontextualize found narratives. Kelila holds a Bachelor of Arts from Barnard College and studies French and Hebrew. Their pieces have been noted for their dazzling ability to capture emotions in time and space. Kelila's work has been exhibited at Fountain House Gallery and Open Invitational, and is held in private collections across North America. Kelila currently lives and works in New York City, continuing to develop a body of work that pushes the boundaries of action painting.
