Born on April 21, 1918, and passed on February 26, 2013, living primarily in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, William Perehudoff is an established Canadian painter, known for his association with colour field painting, murals; his paintings occupied with colour, surface and texture. Leaving the Prairies to study art, he studied at the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center and the Ozenfant School of Fine Arts in New York. He was also inspired by the University of Saskatchewan's summer artists' workshops from 1957 to 1990, taking inspiration from Jack Bush and Post-painterly Abstraction, introduced by New York art critic Clement Greenberg. An awarded artist, Perehudoff obtained the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 1994, and became a Member of the Order of Canada in 1999. Additionally, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws by the University of Regina in 2003 and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
