Born on April 7, 1925 in Montreal, and passed on February 17, 2002, Paterson Ewen was a Canadian painter who's methods and mediums were constantly changing. A founding member of the Non-figurative artist's association of Montréal, Ewen studied at McGill University upon returning from his service on the Western Front during World War II. Upon struggling with depression he turned towards the visual arts, transferring to the Montreal Museum School of Fine Art and Design. He moved to London, Ontario in 1971, and became inspired by the local growing movement of London Regionalism, and began to revisit his interests through large scale pieces exploring geology and space. Ewen's has received awards such as the Prix des Laurentides (1957), Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (1975), Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award (1987).
