I have always been an explorer with a passion for trying new things and with a lifelong love of fabric and color and texture. I subscribe to the notion there is no such thing as failure. It’s a step in the process. A failure is an opportunity to rework and rethink on the path to success.I began my creative explorations as a girl, learning to hand sew clothes for dolls, using scraps of whatever my mom had leftover. In early adulthood I came back to sewing as a way to make clothes more cheaply than I could buy them. Those days are long gone! I also developed an interest in interior design which is also about color and texture and construct. Throughout my working career, which had nothing to do with art, I used sewing and designing as my creative outlet. I have made a variety of things through my love of sewing; everything from children’s toys to my daughter’s proms and wedding gown. I took up quilting in my midlife and began teaching basic interior design classes. Both these pursuits allowed me to explore and expand my creativity and embrace my love and understanding of color and texture and form.I also have great love and respect for this lovely planet we inhabit and am dedicated to the idea of reduce, reuse, recycle which led me,in my retirement, to my current artistic effort to construct bowls and baskets; a useful item, using earth friendly materials that can easily be recycled at the end of their useful life. Using cotton cording and strips or scraps of fabric I could not bear to throw away, I have found the perfect playground for my creative exploration of color, texture, shape and construction. I love how each piece evolves and unfolds, often becoming something quite unrelated to my original design. I find the act of creating the pieces to be meditative and peaceful and am always hopeful they bring joy and peace into their new homes.
