Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1978, Takefumi Hori began working in abstracts after moving to New York in 2004. The main inspiration of Hori’s paintings is the energy and ambitious nature of the people of New York City. “Working from my studio in Brooklyn, I find myself surrounded by the hustle and bustle of everyday urban life. In my paintings, the chaotic atmosphere of the city is juxtaposed against the uncomplicated geometry of the square shape of the work itself.” Hori adopted gold and silver as the materials for his paintings. While exploring The Metropolitan Museum of Art, he was inspired by the fold ornamentation found in decorative art from the 18th and 19th centuries, along with high-end fashion accessories. As objects of desire, they represent one’s sophistication, success, and status in society. Some of his collectors include Tiffany & Co. NY, The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Westwood Global Investments in Boston, Bloomingdale's in Chicago, & Villa Sunrise in the Dominican Republic.
