Exploring and growing up in the beautiful, wild and wondrous place that is Rockport, Maine, awareness of our intrinsic connection to the natural world set roots in my spirit early and deeply. Along the way, I discovered a love for all things with wings and pursued studies in aeronautical science, and later received my pilot license and sea plane rating. This shift in vantage points offered very different ways of observing and exploring. A 35mm Nikkormat placed in my hands ‘later’ in life sent me down a path discovering a medium I had never creatively explored. I began photographically approaching the natural world and everyday ‘things’ as I would someone with a story to share. While residing in Miami Beach, I was accepted into the International Center of Photography’s year-long certificate programming NYC. Of thousands of international applicants only 60 students are accepted into their program each year. This experience amplified my desire and ability to stretch the creative applications and physical parameters of photography. After graduating, I was selected for an artist residency at the Bakehouse Art Complex in the Wynwood District of Miami, FL. This program afforded diverse and unique opportunities to work with and alongside a group of immensely talented artists while more deeply exploring the vibrant, electric and international art world of Miami. Along the way, non-profit collaborations has shown me how communication through photography can directly affect change. Expressing a need or message visually and creatively are often what is needed most to mobilize individuals, or even countries, to act on behalf of a cause. A single photograph can transform a perspective and open a mind, sparking a decision to dedicate months or a lifetime to something bigger than ourselves. Creating site-specific artworks with curators to commissioned work for commercial and residential interior designers has been fulfilling creatively, as has working with private collectors throughout North and South America in acquisitions of new or existing photographic work. While I travel internationally for assignments (or needed adventures!) my studio is based in Maine….a place where my heart never left and where all the inspiration one needs also calls home.
