Donna Young is a Graduate of Burnley School of Professional Art in Seattle, Washington and is a member of the Portrait Society of America. Her unique style is influenced by many different cultures, eras and techniques that she has been exposed to throughout her career. She uses thick impasto combined with thin glazes, while focusing on the detail of the portrait, letting the background fall away into a calming open space. Separating the figures from the backgrounds creates a harmonious arrangement – without the need of too many realistic structures for support. “After so many years of realistic painting, I have gradually been moving into more a contemporary style. I found it to be simply a matter of giving myself permission to unlearn my past ways of seeing and interpreting.”
