Marianne Chapel is a Florida-based visual artist, a passionate arts advocate, and the founder of SPAACES, a Sarasota-based non-profit arts foundation. Her work Chapel has a background in traditional figurative painting and is attracted to art with invented figuration and storytelling and art that affects social change. For these reasons, she admires painters such as Max Beckmann, Paula Rego, Neo Rausch, and Kerry James Marshall. Chapel aspires to encourage meaningful reflection about one's individual and societal norms and conditions. She also hopes to create work that people will spend time in front of, questioning and searching, works that are both visually pleasing and perplexing.
