b. brown is a sculptural ceramic artist currently working and residing in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. She grew up in Los Angeles, CA and New York City, NY, in the highly creative, bohemian household of her AfroCuban-Caribbean born father and Irish- American mother, in which the unique fusion of diverse influences encouraged and fostered her artistic curiosity. When in her twenties she turned her attention to clay, brown found her love of honing technique and somatic feedback led to discovering an innate understanding of the material and a compulsion to know it even more exhaustively. Clay affords brown a means to explore abstracted form while inciting interplay and tension between such dichotomies as methodology and abandon, refinement and elaboration, balance and asymmetry. Today, though her work history has included dance, film, design and functional pottery production, brown’s studio practice is steadfast and rich in articulation. In 2024 she was granted her first solo exhibition, was an attending artist at the School of Visual Arts Summer Sculpture Residency in New York, and gained representation at Hecho A Mano Gallery in Santa Fe - all of which marked notable milestones in her career. 2025 has seen brown continue to expand from the lineage of former work and bring a new body of sculptures to completion for her second solo exhibit at Hecho A Mano Gallery.
