BORN: Alice Springs, NTLANGUAGE: WarlpiriCOMMUNITY: Yuendumu, NT Valda Napangardi Granites is a painter from the Yuendumu Community, situated approximately 300 km northwest of Alice Springs in the vast interior of the Northern Territory. Valda carries a significant artistic heritage, being the granddaughter of Warlukurlangu Art Centre foundation artists, Paddie Japaljarri Sims and Bessie Nakamarra Sims. Valda's paintings have evolved into the classical black and white Aboriginal dot painting style, pioneered by Dorothy Napangardi, another artist from the remote Mina Mina area west of Yuendumu. Valda specializes in depicting one of the most revered Dreamtime stories, Mina Mina Dreaming. Valda distinguishes herself by employing a minimalistic dot art style, using only white on black.
