(1954 - ) Dee Sanchez lives and works in the village of Alameda, New Mexico. She considers herself an intuitive colorist and paints in the all prima style, completing each painting in one sitting, whether it be a small 6 x 8 inch canvas of sunflowers or a large painting of a Santa Fe landscape. Sanchez’s subjects include grand vistas, cloudscapes and skyscapes, chaotic masses of native wildflowers and the small villages and people of her State. The artist is particularly known for her paintings of sunflowers. Dee Sanchez is also a plein air painter and a member of the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico. As the artist like to say, “I absolutely love painting in the studio, but my greatest passion is traveling through New Mexico on short day trip adventures, painting in luscious oils out of the back of my car.” Dee Sanchez has been a poster artist for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, Weems International Artfest and Los Poblanos Lavender Festival. Sanchez has done campaigns for the Inn of the Anasazi in Santa Fe, painted the Jemez Christmas tree for our nation’s capital building, regularly donated artwork to numerous charitable foundations and has many corporate And private collectors.
