“Painting pixelation is my response to our culture’s reverence for/ addiction to the hyper saturated digital media landscape. We are entranced, manipulated, and distracted by the allure of the screen and all it offers. The analog rendering of pixels allows a removed perspective in the face of this phenomenon. Blurring effects, ghostly clouds, hypnotic gradients, and transfixing color experiments arise as I develop a pixel field. The results convey an obfuscation that lies at the heart of the era we are in.” Joel Berry earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Grand Valley State University with a major in printmaking. He lives in Grand Rapids, MI.
