Laurie Pruitt captures the beauty of details often overlooked. Her mysterious and atmospheric photographs reveal the transcendental presence of the spiritual through an intimate examination of the physical world. Pruitt’s work invites the viewer into mystical narratives of solitude and stillness, where the found images become a dialogue with the sacred. Says Pruitt, “As modern people of the 21st century we are largely separated from symbolic life. In the midst of high tech communication systems, I have questions about what is lost."Laurie Pruitt graduated from Western Michigan University in 1980 with a degree in Photography. Her award winning images have earned her publication in Photo Metro Magazine and Photography Magazine. In 2001 she attended a book and arts intensive workshop at Penland School of Crafts, and has most recently attended the Women’s Studio in Rosedale, New York. Pruitt has been on the faculty of the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts since 1999.
