I was born in Fort Knox Kentucky and grew up in Phoenix Arizona. I have lived in New Mexico for 30 years and currently live in the village of Nambé, just north of Santa Fe. I attended college at Arizona State University in the 1980s, majoring in Digital Media Arts and Installation, while also studying Pre-Columbian Art History. My knowledge of ceramics came by practical experience. I apprenticed at the F&R Pottery Studio in Cave Creek while attending ASU. Later I went on to work for the Red Horse Clay Company where I managed the production studio and designed images for their line of southwestern interior accessories. After college I became involved with the MARS group in downtown Phoenix, this was a Hispanic/Chicano NEA funded art collective. Although I am not of Hispanic descent the group had begun onboarding non-Hispanic members to promote diversity. I was an active member up to the time I moved to New Mexico. Mexico is an important place to me. I began traveling in Mexico as a teenager. My mom and I would fly into Mexico and then hire a driver to visit Mayan sites in the Yucatan. Later I went on to work at the Feria Internacional del Libre in Guadalajara. I was part of a delegation from New Mexico that created displays for the main exhibition. My latest trip was to Mexico City in 2019. My teaching experience includes the Summer Ceramic Workshop at Otterbein University in Westerville Ohio, classes at Santa Fe Community College, and Santa Fe Clay in New Mexico. In addition to my studio practice, I am the webmaster for the New Mexico Tourism Department. I also serve as a board member on the Friends of Folk Art which raises money for the Folk Art Museum in Santa Fe.
