Susan P. Long was born in Topeka, Kansas on February 14, 1935. Long specialized in colorful modernist/abstract landscapes and figurative works in oil, pastel, and gouache. During her career she also did considerable etching work.She spent time studying at Mills College in Oakland, San Jose State University, Arizona State University, and Florida State University. For a time she studied in Mexico in Guadalajara and San Miguel de Allende. Long studied with Alfred Frankenstein, Antonio Prieto, Zymund Sazevich, Carlos Cobos, and Carmel Art Association past president, Reed Farrington.Susan Long moved to Carmel, California in 1969 where she taught art for over 20 years at the Carmel Adult School. Long was a long time Artist Member of the Carmel Art Association, Central Coast Art Association, and was a founding member of the Monterey Peninsula Art Foundation. Her works were exhibited at the Carmel Art Association, Pacific Grove Art Center, Monterey Museum of Art, Monterey Peninsula Foundation of Art, Monterey Count Fair, San Benito County Fair, and other local Carmel galleries.Her works are held in collections world wide, including the Malcolm Forbes and Wally Cox collections. Susan P. Long died in Carmel at her home on October 2, 2001.
