Gerard Martin was born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula, where he spent his youth enjoying and appreciating the natural beauty of the area. His mother is a painter and encouraged his art. He received a BFA from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in 1991. Martin is an avid plein air painter and enjoys teaching art at a local school. He became a member of the Carmel Art Association in 2003.
