Richard Bibler was born in Elkhart, Kansas, in 1922. He moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1957 and later became a member of the Carmel Art Association in 1978. Bibler was a painter, illustrator, and educator. He studied at Colorado State, Kansas University, and Stanford University. He illustrated numerous books, including a commission for Reader’s Digest in 1987. His first illustration was completed at age fourteen. During WWII, he served as a field artist for Yank, Pacific Edition. While in college, he created the cartoon Little Man on Campus, which eventually was syndicated to more than 450 college newspapers. After a brief period teaching at California State University at Arcata, he joined the faculty of Monterey Peninsula College, where he taught for 28 years. Bibler said there were four artists he felt were especially influential to his work: Andrew Wyeth, Pierre Bonnard, James McNeill Whistler, and the CAA’s very own Donald Teague.
