Don Bloom was raised on his family's farm near Gustine, California. He graduated from public school and attend San Jose State. He served in the US Air Force as a lead navigator. His plane was shot down over Vienna, and he spent the last year of the war as a prisoner of the Germans. In 1952, he attended the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. This was followed by further study with Frank Myers and Bennett Bradbury. Mr. Bloom resided in Big Sur, Napa Valley and Santa Cruz, CA.
