Freeman Sidney Sargent earned his B.A. degree from University of California and his M.A. from Stanford University as well as several education credentials. He studied at the San Francisco State College, the College of Arts and Crafts, and the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. He was a resident of Berkeley in the 1930s and active in the local art scene. A year of painting and travel in Europe as well as activity in the German Kunst Academy in Karlsruhe contributed to a personal style. Sargent exhibited at the De Young Museum in San Francisco. He taught art at Monterey High School, Sunnyvale High School and was the chairman of the art department at Albany High School.
