Bala Balabaskaran travels the world, both professionally and personally, capturing remarkable images of uncommon wildlife and interesting places. Bala was born in Sri Lanka during a 30-year civil war, spending most of his childhood moving from place to place. He’s lived in 5 different countries, 19 different cities, and studied in 12 different schools while growing up. Bala finally found a more permanent home in Seattle, where he resides today with his daughter, Joy. As an engineer and entrepreneur, Bala has served as a software architect and technology executive for leading companies around the world, including Salesforce, Microsoft, HP, and CIBC. He has also co-founded several successful startups—most recently Fullcast, where he is Chief Technology Officer (CTO). When it comes to photography, Bala’s wanderlust has taken him to 70+ countries and counting, putting him in a position to capture some very rare images and seek out a wide variety of sometimes strange yet magnificent animals. “Wildlife photography is more than just a hobby for me—It is a passion, a way of life, and a means of connecting with nature. Whether it is the majestic roar of a lion in the African savanna, the graceful flight of a hummingbird in the Amazon rainforest, or the playful antics of a polar bear in the Arctic, I am always amazed and humbled by the wonders of nature.
