László Bencze is one of the consummate photographers of our time. As a professional photographer since 1972, he has photographed everything from a copper mine in Papua New Guinea, to a rubber plantation in Malaysia, to a chemical plant in Wales, to cargo planes performing night landings in America. In his images of people, such as Bill Gates at home, Wynton Marsalis in concert, and a vast number of individuals ranging from common laborers to famous executives across the globe, László brings out expressions and elements of their personalities not revealed by others. Photographs from his commercial assignments have illustrated a wide variety of magazines, brochures, advertisements, annual reports, and web sites around the world, with one even selected to hang at Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center in Florida. Born in Germany in 1947, László graduated cum laude from Miami University in 1969 with a degree in English Literature, then served in the U.S. Air Force as a photo officer. Famous photographers with whom he has studied include Ansel Adams, Minor White, Robert Heinecken, Barbara Crane, David Heath, Arnold Newman, and Duane Michaels. He has received numerous awards over the years, including from The Art Directors Club of New York and the Communication Arts Annual. László is extremely passionate about the art of photography and passes that fervor on to others, conducting workshops and seminars around the world for photographers young and old who seek his experience and rare perspectives. He has recently taught "The Art of Seeing" at Viewpoint Photographic Art Center in Sacramento, near where he lives today.
