Meredith Dean is a printmaker, painter, mixed-media artist, and former UTSA art professor known for creating bold, colorful abstract works, and has exhibited across the United States and Internationally. She has served on several important local San Antonio and regional arts boards, and along with her late husband, founded the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy. "I am essentially a printmaker and "printmaking" is historically about telling a visual story and repeating it "verbatim" many times. Consistency is the preferred outcome and any anomalies produced in the process of working are destroyed in favor of presenting a consistent product. This is an approach that I have long resisted. When I create my work, there are methods that I have utilized repeatedly that allow variation in my series of related prints. I often use printing plates made with interchangeable parts that are rearranged as I print to produce different visual results. I also use variations of color in each stage to express moods and perception of time. This way of working allows me to make spontaneous decisions as I create each print to expand the reading of the images beyond only one frozen moment in time.""No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." - Heraclitus— Meredith Dean, 2023
