Secondary Art Piece *Charles Degeyter is a Belgian contemporary artist. At the age of 18, during his studies product design engineering, he started out his career in the field of modern rock / pop poster art by creating illustrations for influential music groups such as Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails and the Melvins. Although Degeyter achieved international acclaim in this field, he began to feel confined by its limitations and the niche world of printed posters. Consequently, he redirected his focus towards more personal work that delves into themes such as anthropology, natural history and popular culture.Degeyter often blurs the boundaries between the natural world and our constructed reality, frequently incorporating elements of natural history. For instance, he presents hermit crabs crawling around with doll heads and creates toy sarcophagi for pets, juxtaposing natural elements with human-made artefacts. Raised in a society where cherished rituals are rapidly vanishing, Degeyter developed a profound curiosity for the worldviews and rituals of diverse societies across the globe. Exploring rituals from various cultures and historical eras enables him to synthesize novel rituals of his own.
