Haitian painter Raoul Dupoux was born in Jeremie in 1906. He started designing at seven while in school, with the guidance of his mother, a watercolor artist. He then used oils with his uncle Alain Clerir, an artist and a great Haitian musical composer. He continued his studies at the Universal School of Paris. A religious man, he joined the Congregation of Brothers of Christian Instructions, where he spent seven years. He continued his studies in art with the famous religious artist Marcel George. He was obligated to leave the institute when his father became ill. When the Centre d'Art found out about his talent, they called him to have an exhibit with Maurice Borno. Other exhibits abroad received acclamation for his watercolors and pen and ink drawings. Immediately after, Professor Montagutelli called upon him to offer him the professor position at the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
