The late Haitian master painter Denis Emile was born in Port-au-Prince on November 30, 1919, and died in 1966. Emile did his primary studies at Jean Marie Guilloux and his secondary studies at Lycée Pétion, then at College Moderne in Haiti. In 1940, he became a teacher (rural education).In 1947, he enrolled at the Art Center (Centre d'Art), where he first worked with primitives. In 1950, he participated in the founding of the F.D.A.D. Around 1960, he resigned from teaching to devote himself entirely to painting. Denis Emile art is scarce, unique and mentioned in most Haitian art books.
