Artist Statement: I weave, cut, knot, bend, glue, tear, and forage various natural materials to create woven fiber art that is primitive, yet modern. I love creating pieces that are textural and play with scale, that also evoke a softness and simplicity. I’m inspired by movement, nature, survival, craft, and sound. With wool and wood being my foundational mediums, I am always on the hunt for new natural materials and techniques to incorporate into my work. No matter the process, the refinement, or the direction my creative evolution goes, I always put my soul and self into my work and am always open to the rabbit hole of inspiration that is the world around us. Artist Bio:Ali Veremakis is a local Marietta fiber artist and the owner/founder of Veremakis Studio, LLC, with a background in interior design, fine art, styling, and fashion merchandising. She has been making pretty things and making things look pretty her entire career. Ali’s woven art style is distinguished by her use of mixing soft and hard with various natural textiles and thin wood strips, while honoring her analytical eye in color theory, balance, and scale. Ali found her unique aesthetic while doing large scale art display installations with her merchandising career. With high public interest in her display art and sudden custom requests Veremakis Studio, LLC was born, and she’s been brewing up new ideas, taking commissions, and learning new knots ever since, all with her day job in luxury fashion merchandising. Ali designs and makes all her pieces out of her home studio. With a fully converted spare bedroom, she weaves oK the tilted tabletop of a vintage drafting table, uses an antique basketball rack as storage, and keeps tools, screws, and scraps in any cool vessel she can find (usually thrifted). Fully equipped with an overgrowing monstera plant and two cat assistants Floyd and Fran, Ali continues to make “the studio” an inspiring second home within her home. Her love for the obscure, utilitarian, elegant, and vintage can be sensed not only in her workspace, but also in her art. Ali’s work has been featured in multiple interior design trade shows, as well as has been sold internationally. In addition to her fiber art, Ali tackles an array of creative projects under her brand of Veremakis Studio, including painting/drawing commissions, and styling projects for events/florals, interiors, and production.
