"I was born in Melbourne 1956 and graduated in 1978 with a Batchelor of Fine Arts from Chisholm Institute of Technology, now known as Monash University. Formative yearswere spent in the innercity of Melbourne adjacent to an industrial estate. The dramatic flat walls, geometric shapes and outlines, rusted shapes and structures left a lasting and positive impression on me. Lush pictorial vistas, though attractive, do not hold my interest like the images of industry and the risky endeavours of human commerce. With assortments of symbols such as skyscrapers, bridges, cranes, signage etc, there is lots of material to work with. In recent years I have endeavoured to express what it feels like to be IN the city rather than looking at it. Contrasting unexpected views of parts of buildings with long, distant vistas, old buildings with new modern ones and a sense of night and day all in the one painting. Parts of the painting are left “unfinished” allowing the viewer to “join the dots”, bringing something of their own imagination to the painting.I am delighted to begin my association with Nissarana Galleries in 2019 with some of these works."
