Geof Pearce has lived most of his life in Adelaide and now lives in Melbourne. His paintings have been influenced by the landscapes of the Fleurieu Peninsula, the Mornington Peninsula and Outback Australia. Geof’s works reflect a deep passion for the alluring light of Australian landscapes. The way light has struck the stunning landscapes of Australia has fascinated him since he was a child. This fascination has led to a strong desire to express through painting, using it as way to connect with this wonderful land. The beauty and wealth of colour, tone and line, the choice of aspect and view, the intensity of light and shadow, the exquisiteness of the time of day, all have led Geof to be fascinated with what people may or may not see in nature. Each of his paintings are always different but each painting always causes a unique response. Geof’s approach to art reflects his experience of painting as an ‘exciting act of discovery.’ Painting is physical for him, a journey that takes him through landscapes and environments. Allowing him to use paint and brush to reflect the pleasures he gains from exploring and creating in this world. Geof uses acrylic paint on unframed Belgium linen, Australian fine cotton or canvas. He also uses the photographs he takes in nature as a basic reference. He might take up to twenty pictures when determining the right angle for a painting, having to consider factors such as light and detail. In Adelaide Geof studied with and worked under both Ron Bell and Lynn Robins. Geof has completed several works on commission and is open to completing paintings of scenes that are especially desired. “I will gladly discuss completing landscape works on commission…. just point out the location! The thorough enjoyment I have experienced as I paint our ever-changing and mesmerising landscapes is one that I would like those who choose to observe my work to also enjoy."
