THE PROCESSMaking artwork from natural fibres such as wool and silk is an intriguing process of transformation, through dying, condensing and pressing fibres together. ABOUT OLGA FINKEL – THE ARTISTImbued in each of Olga Finkel’s art pieces is a journey of discovery. Discarding routines and plans, Olga starts her work on just a sliver of inspiration, letting her hands guide her mind throughout the creative process. “I don’t know what the piece will turn out to be, nor do I want to know. The uncertainty excites me.” Through her art, Olga Finkel breaks free from the scheduled and routinised loop that was once her life in the fashion industry. Olga works with a wide range of materials including paint, paper, and textile. From inception to completion, every piece has its own unique tweaks in material manipulation and technique that emerged from their own discovery journeys. In her recent work using felt, which lacks precision as a material, Olga developed her own techniques to overcome this limitation and successfully created sharp and expressive portraits. The beauty of Olga Finkel’s work lies half in the overall composition of the piece, and half in the journey of discovery presents in its smallest details. For this reason, Olga’s art invokes a sense of intimacy, inviting viewers to get closer and discover the hidden layers beneath the surface.
