Elzire Malebranche was one of the first Haitian female painters who joined the Centre d'Art in Haiti in 1948. She was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on July 7, and was the wife of the late Haitian painter, Max Pinchinat. She passed away on November 15, 2003. "A discreet career should not overshadow some creative work," says Gerald Alexis in his book "Peintres Haitiens." Between 1950 and 1975, she exhibited in Haiti, and Brazil: Mexico, Paris, and the United States. Several Haitian art books cited her art and many has collected her work privately.
