An architecture student at the Beaux Arts de Paris, Jacques de Loustal started out in fanzines, publishing his first album at the age of 21 (1977). While continuing his studies, he produced illustrations for Rock & Folk, where he met Philippe Paringaux, the magazine's editor-in-chief, who also wrote comic strip scripts. Together, they signed a dozen albums, including Barney & The Blue Note, Cours de Sable, Le sang des Voyous...Loustal multiplies original collaborations with writers: Jérome Charyn (Les frères Adamov, White Sonya), Jean-Luc Coatalem (Jolie mer de Chine, Rien de neuf à Fort Bongo), Dennis Lehane (Coronado) Tonino Benacquista (Amours insolentes), Jean-Claude Götting (62.27, Black Dog)... A great admirer of Simenon, Loustal has captured the famous "Simenon atmosphere"; several short stories have been published by Omnibus. Comic strip artist, painter and illustrator, this prolific artist with his recognizable style, in all forms (brush, pen, ink, paint, charcoal...) and unrivalled colorist, exhibits in France, various Asian countries, South America, South Africa and in almost all European countries.Author of numerous film and festival posters, much in demand by the advertising world, Loustal also works for the press: Beaux Arts Magazine, Vanity Fair, Géo... and numerous magazines abroad, including The New Yorker; along with Sempé, he is one of the few French artists to be honored with the cover of the famous American weekly."Globe-croqueur" as Marianne Payot calls him in L'Express, Loustal, for whom "travel drawing is freedom", is very attached to wide open spaces and limitless horizons, and brings back photographs and sketchbooks from his travels to the four corners of the world, which he has been publishing in collections since 1990.ebdomadaire américain.
